Plantains – quite like bananas, so it’s a fruit. Also, not quite like bananas, so it’s a vegetable. You’ll be hard pressed to find a crop that keeps giving as plantains whether green, just ripe or super ripe. To say it’s a favourite across most parts of Africa is really mildly putting it.
